Introducing our tumbler featuring the "Ancient Courses of the Mississippi River Meander Belt" map, created by renowned cartographer and geologist Harold Fisk for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This map series showcases the Mississippi River’s evolving courses from Cape Girardeau, MO to Donaldsonville, LA, some of which date back thousands of years. Part of Fisk’s 1944 report, "Geological Investigation of the Alluvial Valley of the Lower Mississippi River," these maps were derived from data collected through 16,000 borings, revealing the river's historical flow and flooding patterns.
Fisk's work goes beyond geography, capturing the river's essence through a vibrant, earth-toned palette that reflects its dynamic nature. These maps, spanning from prehistory to the 20th century, depict the river's ever-changing path and profound geological impact.
